Desk of DGSC President

I've been attending the Annual Picnic forever( in reality 45 years or so) and I have to say that this one was one of, if not THE, best in recent memory. You know it was a good time when the beer keg floats after only 1 1/2 hours. Kudos to George and his crew for a job well done! Thanks also to Kevin and his bunch for how well groomed the Club looked. And to Don and Mark for getting the Herman Welch Pavilion done in time for the Picnic.

On another note....the 5 Stand is up and running. I've shot about 100 targets there so far, and it's a gas. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

At the September Membership meeting I appointed the Nominating Committee for the December election. ALL of you should figure out what position you can run for.....I hate to see anyone run unopposed( even me 😀) because it's not in the best interest of the Club to do so. If you are interested in being on the board as an Officer or Director and you have been a senior member for at least a year please contact Judson Mann, Ed Shannon and/or Kevin McCauley before the November Senior Membership meeting.

As always, be a Member, not a customer, pick up your empties, coffee cups and cigar butts.

Vice President Remarks

Greetings membership,
If you missed the picnic; know that our Entertainment Director pulled together a great group of volunteers (too many to name) and had an outstanding picnic without a hitch. There were golf carts available for touring, a bouncy house for the kids, the new pavilion was up and running, and raffle items galore. The weather couldn't have been better to boot.
Great work Director Adelman!

Remember to pick up your empties as the mower is spitting them out like rocks.

Treasurer/Land Bond Updates

The Land Bond payout window has closed. Everyone who has requested a payout should have received their payout by the time that this newsletter has been released. With one exception . . . we are missing a valid mailing address for Ron Rickman. If anyone has Ron's mailing address, please supply it to Vicepresident/Membership Chair Judson Mann (vicepresident@downersgrovesc.com) so we can update our records and contact him about the landbond payout.
Please contact treasurer@downersgrovesc.com if you've submitted a payout request but haven't received a check yet. If you have any additional questions regarding the Landbonds please contact any of the board members.

The new machines are here for Sporting Clays Field. Jan Gronych & crew are working to get them installed. The Two-wheeled carts have been assembled. Mike Pietrzak had brackets made to accommodate solar panels & batteries. Wiring & connectors have to be modified to adapt to our receivers. We are getting close to swaping out the old machines so be patient & they should be in place soon.

Jed Davis is running a youth Fall League with Practice shooting on Friday 9-20 & the League starting on Friday 9-27 for 5 weeks. Looks like there are around 20 youths signed up for this league.

That's a wrap on the Picnic
What a great day right?
Perfect weather to appreciate your club, shoot the game of your choice in the morning, visit with friends and family, enjoy a complimentary delicious meal followed by an exciting “bucket raffle” and the much anticipated gun raffle!
The winners of the gun raffle are Bill Weaver, Dave Lopez, Aaron Wahls and Jim Olin. With your overwhelming support, 94% of the gun raffle tickets were sold! Chuck Fuellian, Don Cox, Kevin McCauly and myself sold over 30 tickets EACH !! The “bucket raffle” was a lot of fun with great prizes. Larry White, Ken Cechura, Stan Sysco and Judy Novatny generously donated to our raffle. Thank you! Congrats to all the lucky winners and a HUGE thank you to those who purchased and supported the raffles!

Approximately 120 members, family and children enjoyed your picnic. The “Herman Welch” pavilion worked out well. The “Jumpy House” was a big hit with the itty bitties. We also had a few babies in strollers. So nice to see! Golf carts were a hot commodity to take a drive and “explore” the club, especially you new 5 stand. Bob Craft, Chuck Farber, Kevin McCauly, Keith Uffelman, Tim Donnell, Charlie Zib, Don Cox and Mark Matteson worked very hard grooming the club and pavilion prior to the picnic. Brian Savoda provided the frozen treats for the kids, great idea! Dave Lopez (his fam Nick, Ashley and wife Jeanette worked as well..), Tom Maslowski, Bob Glaz, Bob Barczak, Pete Maslowski and Steve (sorry, cant remember his last name..) worked Sat set up as well as Sunday take down. Tom Scroppa, Tommy Scroppa ,Fred (sorry cant remember his last name..)and Dan Bellus were the corn and meat cookers. The Kasten group, Jan, Nancy and Terry, made and served the delicious side dishes and desert. My wife Bev as well as Tim and Lorraine Donnel, sold tickets and handed out prizes. Larry Chambers, as always, was there to answer the many, many questions that pop up. Note: My sincere apologies if i have overlooked someone.....

To all who attended, supported the raffles, I hope you enjoyed yourself! On behalf of your club and myself, THANK YOU to those who helped make this picnic a success!!

From a Senior Member -> What a great surprise to see all of the hard work from members to make this place a great club. The new stands, the new 5 stand, the new pavilion and electronic shooting systems. We know lots of people had to help out and want to let them know how great it is. Let’ keep up our beautiful club and enjoy the shooting season. Thank you for all of those that made this happen!
