As we look forward to better weather, several of your Board members have planned some “special events” for 2022. We have added a “Ladies Clay Date” for April, 2 Registered Skeet Shoots, 4 ATA shoots, a vintage gun shoot, and more to the calendar. We intend to add several “clinics” or classes, pending our NRA Grant application.

For these programs to succeed, we need your participation. We need you to shoot. We need you to volunteer. This club was founded by some very dedicated volunteers. DGSC offers a great value at a very reasonable cost. In order to maintain that value, we need volunteers to help out, the same six or seven members run the counter on many weekends. We pay trap labor to cover the counter the rest of the time. At this point we have absorbed that additional cost. Those funds could be better used for much needed repairs and improvements to a 25-year-old facility.
Talk to Larry Chambers if you can help out at the counter. Talk to me or any Board member if you can help with any of the events or projects. This is your club, be a part of it!

Vice President Remarks

Thank you to all the members that have sent in their renewals. Overall we are about 75% renewed. For those that have not renewed we are reaching out to remind and setup payment.

Everyone is getting a new badge this year and we have switched to PVC Cards, they should be arriving in the mail. Please be sure to where your badge when at the club. For the most part the postage mail I believe is getting better but I am still hearing of delays so please allow a few more weeks for your badges to arrive. If you are concerned though if you did renew or if your badge has been mailed out please email vicepresident@downersgrovesc.com and we will check for you. The trap counter will also have an updated list of who has renewed and not, but as they are busy signing up our fellow shotgun sport shooters please do not bother them about renewals until there isn't a large line of people signing up for rounds.

At the upcoming March GM meeting we will be approving our Probationary Members from 2021 and inducting our new 2022 Probationary Members. Official welcome letters and packets will arrive with their badges in the mail.

Shotgun Sports News

Friday night shooting will start up again on April 1st. The 'Games' will begin and we will have open Trap & Skeet shooting. The ‘Parkview Christian Academy Trapshooting League’ will also start again on Fridays and will conclude on May 27th. The league utilizes all 8 fields to shoot their 50 rounds so the practice shooters should have some open fields by 7:00 pm.
Summer hours will start up again April 1st. We will be open for shooting at 9:00 am until 2:00 pm, Tues, Thurs, Saturday and Sunday.

We need to hire a person to work the counter on Tuesdays, Thursdays and a few Saturdays & Sundays. Please have them contact me if you know someone interested.

Whats Happening with DGSC Sporting Clays

Spring has Sprung!!!!
Your Sporting Clays course is anxious to welcome all members back after a long, cold Winter. I shot the course Tuesday. What a Ball!!! To be outside with friends and shooting challenging targets after being cooped up all Winter was a real treat!!!! We shot Sporting Clays then stopped by 5 stand and shot 2 rounds. What a great day!!! Note: Course was a bit muddy so plan accordingly.
Thank Jan Gronych, Mike Pietrzak and Larry Chambers for their outstanding maintenance of 38 machines! All targets were thrown without a hiccup the day I shot!!!!

Look for placement of 5 new machines including a rabbit and a midi!

With the cost of shells and reloading components increasing, rest assured that your club has NOT increased Sporting Clays or 5 stand fees. They remain between $.22 to $.28 per target. A great value!!!!!
So why not call your buddies right now and plan a visit to your club!

Events/Entertainment


Senior Members Only So far this year the club has a number of added activities. We will be hosting at least nine competitive shooting events this year with the potential of even more.

We are adding a Club Championship event to be held on Saturday, October 22nd. The Club Championship will be open to all members of DGSC. Non-members may shoot, but only members will qualify for prizes. While the final details are not finalized you can expect that the Championship will include all club venues.
The Vintage Shoot will be held on Saturday, September 22nd and the Club Picnic on Sunday, August, 28th. New senior members need to be aware they are required to assist in the planning and presentation of the annual club picnic.

DGSC is also hosting Introduction to Shotgun Sports for Women. Thursday, April 7th and Saturday, April 9th.
The program will include safe and responsible gun handling, basic shooting techniques, different shotgun types, and an overview of the clay shooting disciplines at DGSC. Those interested need to contact Mark Matteson 815-474-0057

Veterans . . . please join us at DGSC on Saturday, May 21st, for one free round of trap or skeet targets. Set aside the date and look for updates.

Entertainment and marketing will be working with the ATA and NSSA directors again this year in supporting those activities through the year. The club will be holding four ATA and two NSSA registered shoots this year.

Hunting Report


Senior Members Only There were two bird releases in the month of February on the 12th (40 birds released, 31 harvested) and 26th (50 birds released and 40 harvested).
There was a 50 bird release on March 12th and the final 50 birds will be released on March 26th. Remember anyone signing up gets a package of shells.
Total birds released were 200 and 148 were harvested!

After the bird release on March 26th there will be a lunch in the pole bard for all hunters who hunt that day and anyone who has participated during the hunting season for pheasant or deer.

Road Construction

IDOT will begin resurfacing a 13 mile stretch of Rt 55 in both directions from Weber Road to Rt 80 beginning Thu 3-10. Newspaper also stated that this project will be completed by Nov.
