Upcoming Meetings: Board Meeting -> Saturday August 14, 2021 1:00 PM @ DGSC | General Membership Meeting -> Sunday September 19, 2021 10:00 AM @ DGSC

Desk of DGSC President

This spring there have been a host of changes at DGSC. Your Board, with help from a lot of volunteers, have successfully completed many long-planned projects and events.

Under Don Cox’s supervision, DGSC has become more energy efficient with a COMED lighting project converting all our lighting to LED technology. This will significantly reduce our electric costs and has improved the lighting on the trap & skeet fields.

With aid from a NRA Range improvement Grant we replaced all of the safety fencing on fields 4 thru 8. After 25 years the original fences were in sorry condition. With proper maintenance the new fences will last another 25.

Stan Systo & Larry Chambers have hosted 2 successful ATA shoots, Tim Donnel has successfully brought Registered Skeet back to DGSC.After a 20-year absence the fields are now up to NSSA standards. DGSC employee, Mark Matteson & Jed Davis have cultivated another crop of young shooters on Friday nights. Dave, has brought a new venue, FITASC, to the 5-stand area. Ed Shannon has enlisted several members to operate the kitchen for several trap & skeet events. Jan Gronych & Larry Chambers continue to improve the target presentation on Sporting Clays. As always, Kevin McCaully and his crew have the grounds impeccably mowed and groomed.

George Adelman has initiated programs that, with members donations, replaced the picnic tables on the patio with 2 attractive yet functional table & chair sets. These were so well received the Board purchased 2 additional sets. George also organized work parties that scraped, painted, & repaired and later began a long-needed asset inventory project.

DGSC has entered the 21st century by now accepting debit & credit cards.

If you have not had the opportunity to appreciate your club recently, come on out and see what our Board and volunteers have accomplished.

We realize ammunition availability is an issue, we continually attempt to procure affordable shells. For members unable to find shells elsewhere, we currently have 12 & 20ga available in limited quantities. We must limit purchases to your use at DGSC. I suggest you call the counter and check on availability.

Watch the newsletter for future projects & events. This is your club, come out and use it.

Ken Cechura DGSC President

Vice President Remarks

Improvements
For your comfort, safety and shooting enjoyment, your club has added these improvements: **New skeet fences!** **New LED lights on fields as well as parking lot and club house! (Wow…. What an improvement!)** **New table and chairs on patio!**

Friday Night Lights
Friday nights would be a great time to enjoy the above improvements!! Your club is open from 6p - 10p to shoot trap or skeet!! Your club is really nice in the evening. Much cooler in the evening and the wind tends to be less. Hope to see you on Friday nights!!

August is National Shooting Month
Why not ask your neighbor, relative or friend to join you for a day of shooting? Show your badge to receive a 20% discount of guest fees! FOID card NOT necessary for guest when member is responsible for firearm and accompanies guest while shooting.

Capital Improvements
Myself and several others have been asked to submit a list of suggested improvements to be completed in the near future. Capital Improvements provide for construction, repair or improvements to buildings, grounds and shooting venues. This is your club. Your suggestions will be strongly considered. This is a great opportunity for your voice to be heard! Please submit your suggestions to myself at vicepresident@downersgrovesc.com.

Membership
Is club accepting new shooting members? Is club accepting applications to convert from shooting to Sr membership? The answer is definitely YES! With Covid and the ammo shortage, membership has taken its lumps. We have THE BEST shooting facility! Recommendations and sponsorship from members is the best way to increase membership!

Have fun, Shoot Often! George Adelmann, DGSC Vice President

    Shotgun Sports

Another game has been added to the 5 Stand Field - FITASC. FITASC is an International form of Sporting Clay. Up to 8 shooters can shoot at 1 time. Lots of fun, you stand in 3 hoops set out on the 5 Stand course. You hold your gun in a down position as you would if you were hunting. A second shot may be taken at a single target. Hats off to Dave for setting this up.

Dave is having a ‘Steak at the Stand’ shoot on July 31st. It is a 50-target event to have some fun & eats. You will need to pre-register. We have brochures at the club. See Dave to sign up.

The next ATA shoot is coming up July 25th. If you can volunteer, see Stan Systo or me – help is always needed.

We have a limited amount of 12 & 20 Ga shells. We can supply as needed for the day. We are not in a position to supply extras.

New LED Lights have been installed on the Trap & Skeet fields. They are a great improvement over the old lights. Come out on Friday night and check them out.

Raffle tickets are selling briskly. Make sure you see a board member for yours or visit the shooting counter. Prizes this year are a Beretta A400 Sporting Clays 12 gauge with 30 inch barrel, accessories, and case. We also are raffling off a 24 gun fire safe. Drawing will be at the club picnic on August 29th. Plan to attend as we will have additional bucket raffles that day as well.

Don’t forget to save the dates for the Vintage Shoot, Sept 26th, and the Parking Lot Swap Meet, Sept. 18th.

    ATA Shoots

On Sunday, June 27th the Club held another ATA registered trap shoot. Forecasted weather was hit or miss storms and rain but mother nature treated us very well with no rain, light breezes and a day of sunshine. Turnout wasn’t as robust as the last few shoots, due to many dynamics. The State Shoot was the previous weekend, people are having a hard time finding shells, and there ended up being three other trapshoots in a 2 hour radius. Never the less, many people enjoyed being outdoors and participating in the sport they love.

In addition to our normal prizes, the Illini Indian organization donated silver buckles for Champions in all three events and coins for the best shooters in the 16’s. Club members John Mansch and Mark Matteson won C class and Veteran, respectively.
The full list of winners is available on the DGSC Website http://www.downersgrovesc.com/ATA%20Shoots/JuneResults_2021.pdf

The club had a moment of silence for each Karen VanderVeen and Carol Rieck. Both ladies have done much for the benefit of our club over many many years. Both are greatly missed.

Please join us for our next ATA shoot on July 25th whether as a shooter or possibly as a volunteer helper. Program available on DGSC website http://www.downersgrovesc.com/ATA%20Shoots/JulyProgram_2021.pdf We greatly appreciate those who help with the many aspects of making these shoots happen. As always, please look up Larry Chambers or myself if you would like to help out.

    NSSA News

The Grand Prairie Tournament, Our first registered shoot was a success
Two days of shooting, 5900 targets thrown, 17 shooters participated. Of those seventeen shooters, ten were new to our club and six are past state champions. Should be helpful with our word of mouth marketing. Results have been posted on NSSA.com and MySkeet.com We are delighted to report that the event created income for DGSC and is profitable from the start. We are planning more registered skeet activities involving Illinois State Skeet Association and the National Skeet Shooting Association.
Thank you to all of the DGSC volunteers that made the event a success. Our club looked good, we threw good targets and our visitors had a good time!

DGSC will be hosting the Fall Meeting of the Illinois State Skeet Association on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
